[juːnɪ'vəːsɪtɪ wɪts], 1) eine Gruppe akademisch gebildeter englischer Schriftsteller (C. Marlowe, T. Kyd, T. Nashe, J. Lyly, R. Greene, T. Lodge u. a.), die mit ihren etwa 1590-1600 geschriebenen Stücken die Entwicklung des englischen Dramas entscheidend beeinflussten; 2) eine nicht organisierte Gruppe von englischen Romanautoren und Lyrikern der 1950er-Jahre, die zum Teil auch den Angry young men beziehungsweise dem Movement zugerechnet wurden und zumeist Universitäts-Dozenten waren (u. a. K. Amis, J. Wain, P. Larkin, auch Iris Murdoch).
